Basketball Dribbling Drill: 12 Inch Dribble Crossover Drill

Great drill for teaching young players to cross over between defenders and make a move to the basket for a layup.

Place 2 garbage cans on either side of the key, about 12 inches apart. Perform this drill from both the left and right side of the key, alternating and practicing crossovers with both hands.

Place the cans on the left side of the key and have player dribble straight at the first can, dribbling with the right hand. The player should crossover from right to left hand as soon as he/she approaches the first can. Then immediately cross over back to the right hand, between the 2 cans, moving their body through the cans as well. Player should then take two more dribbles as they move in for a layup.

Practice from both the right and left side of the key, alternating the hands used to dribble and perform the crossover and layup.
